The study concluded that elevated cyanide intake caused by smoking could cause abnormal vitamin B12 metabolism. The recommended daily allowance for vitamin B12 for men and women ages 19 to 71 years and older is 2.4 mcg. Smokers would do well to check whether they need vitamin B12 supplementation
